The Most Powerful Populist Issue Is Pushing a Button to Talk to a Human Being

What the White House did today was real pandering, pandering of substance. While Musk and Trump were getting ready to talk about the migrant hordes or the Woke Mind Virus or whatever is rattling around in the ever-narrower grooves of their brains, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris put out a press release denouncing "all the ways that corporations—through excessive paperwork, hold times, and general aggravation—add unnecessary headaches and hassles to people’s days and degrade their quality of life."

Empathy for the devil

What if a brush with death—an actual brush, the bullet clipping an ear rather than sending an explosive shockwave through his skull—is not really something a person shakes off just because it's time for the next chapter in the election story?

X-Man Earns an R

X-Man Earns an R

A thorough, steady downpour of sophomoric cishet-male-oriented sexual entendre, not even trying to double up on itself, just juvenile filth, poo-poo-pee-pee and dick and butt remarks, which are consistent with the main character Deadpool, who is an idiot, in a property now in its “threequel” stage.

MR WRONG: Feeling Defrosted

Seriously, if I could live all the time in a Hotel, semi-Miranda July-style, I totally would. That is one of my Life Goals when I hit the Megamillions, which, hey, it’s a life-altering amount of loot this week!

WEATHER REVIEWS

Bethany Beach, Delaware, August 15, 2024

★★★★ Now and then a stray wavelet would smack the back of the head in mild rebuke for turning away from the swells, but otherwise one could bob in the low tide without concern. Cool currents were running under the warm water above, and the gentle movement of it all would bear a person surprisingly far down the beach from their umbrella emplacement. Big fish breached the surface not much further out. Fortress compounds of sand stretched along the highest bench of the tidal zone, hours away from their reckoning. The afternoon was sunny and humid enough to feel like full summer again, the sky so white with glare that it looked gray. A Carolina wren trilled loudly, with insectoid persistence, outside the library pergola, while a hummingbird worked the top of a crape myrtle. A trio of workers belted out a song in Spanish, keeping time with the strokes of their post-hole diggers.

SANDWICH RECIPES DEP'T.

WE PRESENT INSTRUCTIONS in aid of the assembly of a sandwich selected from The Swedish, French, American Cook Book, by Mrs. Maria Mathilda Ericsson Hammond, published in 1918, and now in the Public Domain and available at archive.org for the delectation of all.

Egg Sandwiches ( Sandwiches aux Oeufs )
For each sandwich cut two thin slices of bread; spread with mayonnaise dressing; fill in between with the hard-boiled eggs that have been chopped; sprinkle with pepper and salt; cut out with the heart cutter; decorate with a strip of Spanish pepper all around, a slice of hard-boiled egg on the top; with a diamond of truffle in the centre of the yolk. Arrange nicely on a paper doily, garnish with parsley in the centre, and serve. [These sandwiches can also be used for picnics, etc., cut in triangles or any shape desired, but then leave the decoration out.]

If you decide to prepare and attempt to enjoy a sandwich inspired by this offering, be sure to send a picture to indignity@indignity.net.
